LEARN HOW TO SPICE UP READY MADE IDEA.

There is always a chance to be original...even with an already made idea. These days we seem to have lots of people re-twitting, liking or reposting other people’s creative idea, conversation and quotes. There is nothing wrong with that, it’s ok. At least that’s one way of liking or following the idea. Learn from this, an orginal creative idea, conversation, quote will capture a lot of attention and credit will be given to the originator when you push it to your followers

But if must replicate it again then there has to be something original and creative added to it, with that some credit will also be given to you. That’s the trick.

Here is an example of what I mean. This morning, I saw a quote from a friend on my wall. On reading it I fell in love with and needed to let other people experience it too. But there was one problem, it was so personal and to put that on my wall will mean I JUST EXPERIENCED IT THIS MORNING for real but truthfully I didn’t. So I decided to give it a twist. My friend's wall and mine is in this picture

...well that’s what I think, I stand corrected. Share your version

what is that 1 thing that is yours but you share with the world?

yeah...this is more like me

you are deeppink
#FF1493

Your dominant hues are red and magenta. You love doing your own thing and going on your own adventures, but there are close friends you know you just can't leave behind. You can influence others on days when you're patient, but most times you just want to go out, have fun, and do your own thing.

Your saturation level is high - you get into life and have a strong personality. Everyone you meet will either love you or hate you - either way, your goal is to get them to change the world with you. You are very hard working and don't have much patience for people without your initiative.

Your outlook on life is very bright. You are sunny and optimistic about life and others find it very encouraging, but remember to tone it down if you sense irritation.

The most glorious thing about knocking your head against a wall is....when you stop.

...Because when you stop, you begin to observe more carefully and understand that the closer you move to the wall, the more space there is between the bricks. Even closer still and there are gaps the size of mountains. Even closer and you would assume that the spaces in the wall are so huge that it makes you think that the wall wasn't even there in the 1st place. Closer still and you'll be on the other side and wonder why you banged your head to begin with....
A prediction if I may: I see a Young gifted Naija guy who will change the face of this country in the future.

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway - Kent M. Keith

From the image: All a man needs is a patient woman to stick by and watch his dreams fall into piece and quit nagging. Do you think she knew he will become the US President at this time? I don't think so, but she stuck with him and his VW beetle anyway

People will ask how do you handle it when every day we are faced with new challenges that test our endurance and patience? my take is, its a different kind of love..our relationship with humans is just like God's relationship with us....we are inconsistent but still he persist, not relenting, not influencing our decisions and patiently waiting that one day we will see with clear understanding his love for us. so sometimes it takes those who understand this kind of love to patiently wait. Although patience is a virtue it can still be practiced by every one. its all in the big picture and the loyalty.....thanks for sharing this cos even those who are loosing patients can still hold on believing life will be fine.

An accessory can do a lot more than just its first function.

We have this white writing board in my office; it leans against the wall very close to the ladies. You will see it directly down the aisle as you enter our floor. Like the usual marker board, it has this white glossy layer that you can write on and clean off at will (daah...like they don’t know). This small piece is about this white board on our floor and the fact that the management wants to wants it removed...well not technically, but that’s the story I want to tell. An accessory can do a lot more than just its first function.

Why did I choose a white board you may ask, well, it is very significant to the development of a creative person plus it is our most functional accessory. We mostly use this board during brainstorming sessions, Ideas generated are jotted down on it and selected ones are ticked out. But sometimes, one of our art directors also uses it as his canvas. He draws whatever inspires him on it. This over times as serve as a creative exercise for us, cause as copy writers, we go take a look at whatever is drawn and give it a headline. This game that has helped me overtime, like I said in my previous blog am new to the business and I try as much as possible to exercise my mind and that board has been a great help. The board is like an open mind; words are not hidden but open for everyone to see, pick on or to digest. Originally this board wasn’t where it is now; it sits in an overcrowded make shift storage cubicle in our chill room. I wonder why they call that room chill room cause it’s never chilled...lol, anyways back to our board, it has this black cylinder attached to the lower end, this hold the writing markers and out makeshift duster. I have written on the board quite a number of times, during brainstorming session, when I give a drawing a headline, sometimes I even write jokes too (small laughs).

But why am I saying this.... as a creative person, everything around us should be taken advantage of to help develop ourselves. Sometimes, something as insignificant as a white board can sharpen your writing skills. Give it a try like I’m doing now, a board just inspired a story and writing a story is a good creative exercise. So, that is all about the funny multi-purpose white board on our creative floor.

Imagine life without teachers. I just discovered a new mentor!

In life, we all have who we look up to, who we want to be like when we grow up, that is a Role Model. it's quite different from a Mentor. A mentor is that one person who can guide you, help you, take you under his or her wing, and nurture your career quest. He or she is often in a position you'd like to be in and has the clout and connections to guide you to a similar position. a mentor is also someone you probably have unusually good chemistry with who will share stories with you of his or her own climb to success. An effective mentor isn't afraid to criticize constructively.

that brings me to what I want to share....it was an illustration my mentor gave me on how to be strong during life's challenges...and this illustration guides me particularly in decision making. she said, when an aeroplane is taking off it is not always smooth because it needs a lot of pressure to lift off the ground. But when it becomes airborne, it coasts smoothly and swifly. I was so excited when I heard it that I had to share it on my Facebook page. it really attracted my friends and some made comments. but there is this particular friend's comment i really like; he said "Having attended two courses at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology in Zaria, Northern Nigeria, and having covered the aviation beat since 2007, I can only agree with your mentor. He is right.! Most crashes occur during take off and landing! But when the plane reaches the right altitude, which between 29000 and 33 000 fts above sea level in Nigeria, the journey is smooth! That's is until there is turbulence! Most times turbulence occurs when cold wind and hot wind meet. It's always a transition from one weather to the other, one season to the other! When ur life is about to change, u always experience some turbulence! Isn't it great! I have lived long enough and got white hair by the way to know that life is mystery!" Simon Ateba

so, you see why its healthy - yeah, healthy! to have a mentor...they share experiences you can learn from. a friend or a senior colleague can your mentor, even your spouse can be your mentor, it doesn't matter so long you have someone who can impact knowledge, experience and inspiration to you.

I think you should keep that in mind too

The True Value of Social Media

My 4 easy ways a rookie can penetrate a creative agency and get noticed.

The fact that I’ve been busy this past month is no excuse to ignore my responsibilities I know. But the truth is I’ve been busy learning how to use the gun…of course not that metal but the mental gun. Six months ago I was a rookie with STB McCann Lagos but now I can confidently say that the story has change. What brought about this was as a result of the conversation I had this morning with a new rookie my agency just recruited, she is frustrated and disappointed at the ways things are going. And this just got me thinking about how I started with STB McCann. I left M2 magazine (a marketing magazine) where I was working as a journalist to join this agency. Before then I had tried securing a job as a copywriter but I wasn’t fruitful. Back to why I’m blogging this, my new colleague said “Yetunde, I was given a three month probation, but I’ve not been given any assignment that will let me prove my ability, what can I do? Because am tired of coming and not doing anythi…” cut, that was it there, the same frustration I had when I got to this place. I believe in my creative abilities, I talked my way into begin put on probation but there was no assignment to test my abilities with when I got in. You know how frustrating and useless creative people can be when there is nothing to do. After a month of trying to understand how things work I took some funny steps and it has helped so far and it is just the advice I gave my colleague.

Talk to a senior colleague you can tap from

Trust me, that work wonders. When you’ve tried all you can and you are stuck, talk to someone who has the job experience as well as knows the agency’s philosophy better. They will be able to put you through in a more informal way, cause in a working environment nobody wants to officially take you through you’ve been taught in school. What I did was go out for a drink or two with some of my colleagues, while there we talk about life, work, experiences and expectations generally. I ask a question there and there and gradually my confidence boosted.

Take every shortcut you can

What I mean here is, be in their face as much as you can; go for creative, strategy meetings even when you are not part of the team working on that account. It may sound unreasonable and rude but I did lot of that in the early days… since I had nothing much to do. (I intruded on their meetings, and when they challenged me I simply say, “I just want to watch and learn”)While in such meetings I make few contributions and even though my ideas weren’t considered my voice was heard. A good plus I had too is - I could type faster, with that I was of use in such meetings.

Have a special skill

Other than what is obvious, be known for more. My agency doesn’t have an in-house photographer, so whenever there is a need for a visual representation of any sort I volunteered to go take the pictures because I have a photographic skill. My shots were journalist and just what they wanted. Without been schooled I deliver on brief. So, in meetings whenever I make comments or suggest an idea, the team listens to me. Gradually I was given some minor copies to write

Come up with a WOW Idea

And trust me when they are hooked you are in. plus, who works better on a wow idea if not the originator of that idea.….it’s not all the way for me yet but I’m definitely on track.

Mind you this may not be applicable everywhere because most agencies have their own peculiarities, but as a rookie trying to shoot a gun in impenetrable agencies I guess this can work…
